Slopper

Slopper is an insult. It lands on the kind of person who opens ChatGPT before they let themselves think. The word is bolted onto AI slop, which is what everyone started calling the cheap, endless content that generative tools spit out around 2024 and 2025. Slop plus "-er." The person making, or living in, the slop. It broke out in the summer of 2025 when a TikTok creator repeated a friend's coinage for people letting ChatGPT run their lives, called it "incredible verbiage," and watched the comments do the rest.

The sting is about dependence. Nobody is getting called a slopper for asking AI to tighten an email. It is the other stuff. Dinner. What to text your mom back. Whether to quit. There was a story going around about a first date where the woman opened ChatGPT at the table to decide her order, and the guy telling it noted, flatly, that there was no second date. That little scene did a lot of the work in spreading the word, because everyone recognized the type. A person who quietly outsourced the ordinary decisions that used to just be theirs.

The word has a second life too, and this one points outward instead of inward. Here a slopper is less a victim of AI than a vendor of it. Think assembly line. One template that happens to get clicks, copied into forty near-identical variations, fired across a wall of accounts, monetized on views. The bigger operators reportedly run somewhere between 50 and 100 accounts at a time. Some of them have turned the whole thing into a side business, selling courses on how to do it.

Two footnotes. First, there is no friendly version of this word, and it travels in a pack: botlicker, second-hand thinker, Groksucker, all roughly the same accusation. Second, if you are ever in Pueblo, Colorado, and a menu offers you a slopper, order it. That one is an open-faced cheeseburger smothered in green chili and has nothing to do with any of this.

Where you'll hear "slopper":

  • Thrown at someone who runs every choice past AI first, however trivial.
  • Thrown at a creator or account smothering feeds in copy-paste AI content.
  • Used as a catch-all jab in the AI backlash, in the same breath as clanker and botlicker.

Where you'll hear "slopper":

  • Pointed at a person who runs every decision past AI first, no matter how small.
  • Pointed at an account or creator burying everyone's feeds in copy-paste AI content.
  • Tossed around in the broader AI backlash, right next to clanker and botlicker.

If you want to see the slop a slopper deals in, John Oliver's Last Week Tonight ran a full segment on it. He digs into why your feeds are suddenly packed with AI-generated junk, where it comes from, and the real damage it does, all with enough jokes to keep a heavy subject watchable. It is a solid primer on the wider world that words like slopper grew out of.

FAQs

It is a mocking name for someone who leans on AI for nearly everything, from what to cook to how to answer a text. The word comes from "AI slop," which is what people call low-effort, mass-produced AI content. It went viral in 2025 and is squarely meant as an insult.

It grew out of "slop," a word so common by the end of 2025 that Merriam-Webster made it their Word of the Year. A TikTok post that summer is what attached the "-er" and pointed it at people letting ChatGPT make their decisions for them. From there it just kept spreading.

Close, but not identical. Usually a slopper is the person who is overly hooked on AI. Now and then the word swings the other way and lands on people churning out AI slop at scale to make money. Which one is meant tends to come down to context.
