You’ll find that 1up performs best with direct queries in the form of a question or a statement that can be answered by your company’s webpages or uploaded documents.
Your 1up Knowledge Base (KB) is the heart of the system.
1up is only allowed to answer questions based on your knowledge base. It will not provide any information that isn’t already in your KB. This is how 1up ensures accurate responses are generated using sources you trust.
Sources can include website URLs and documents in Word, PDF, and Excel format.
1up automatically ingests hundreds of URLs from your website to build a foundation of knowledge about your products. We recommend adding specific pages you think would improve 1up’s ability to generate answers.
In addition to the many URLs 1up pulls in from your site, we recommend uploading 10-20 of your best product and compliance documents to give 1up the best foundation to generate answers.
These should include:
1up also allows you to pull knowledge from popular data repositories. All of our connectors are 3rd party approved integrations having undergone extensive security reviews to ensure your data is securely connected to 1up.

How many documents should I connect to my KB?
You don’t hundreds of documents in your knowledge base. We recommend a “less is more” approach here. Start with 10-20 of your latest product, security, and compliance documents. You can always add more as you notice gaps in 1up’s ability to answer questions.
Remember, when it comes to building a knowledge base, Garbage in = garbage out. Focus on connecting high quality documents that 1up can use to generate great answers.
If you have multiple products or lines of business, you want 1up using the correct sources to generate answers.
For example, if you’re asking about Product A, you wouldn’t want 1up to be generating answers about Product B. This is why it’s important to segment your knowledge using Tags.

Once your knowledge base is set up we recommend asking 1up questions to make sure everything is working. Head to the Ask 1up tab and try out a few questions about the documents you just uploaded:
The Ask 1up feature is best for fast answers to questions under 250 characters in length. For longer, complex queries, we recommend uploading them to the Automate Questionnaires tab.
Make sure your Knowledge Base documents are marked “Ready” before asking about them. If you notice any issues with answer generation, reach out to support@1up.ai
Optional: Try Different Answer Sources
When working with a large knowledge base, you can control what sources 1up can use for generating answers by selecting between URLs, Documents, and specific tags:
URLs You Added: 1up will use information from any URLs that belong to your company that you explicitly added to the Knowledge Base. That includes your company website that 1up ingested when you activated your dashboard.
Documents you uploaded: Questions will be answered using ONLY the documents that you’ve added to the Knowledge Base. This includes Word Docs, PDFs, Excel sheets, previous questionnaires, and 3rd party integrations such as Google Drive, Confluence, etc.
Tagged Sources: Questions will be answered using information from specific documents you tagged in your Knowledge Base. Here’s a reminder of how to use tags.
With your KB setup you should be able to test a questionnaire with 1up. Head to the Automate Questionnaires tab to upload it.
Don’t have an RFP/questionnaire you’re working on? That’s fine, you can evaluate 1up with an old one. This is a great way to quickly test 1up’s ability to complete your questionnaires. Just make sure you delete the answers first.
You will be asked to 1up allows you to choose your preferred answer length, language, and sources. This step is also an opportunity to choose specific sources you want to use based on the tags you set in your Knowledge Base.
Here’s a short demo of what that looks like:
